Quonset Development Corporation is seeking to hire an Operator / Maintenance Technician to join our team. The
Operator/Maintenance Technician is responsible for inspecting, operating, and maintaining the wastewater treatment and collection system throughout the Quonset Business Park. This includes the treatment plant, pumping stations, stormwater system piping, collection system piping, and associated mechanical, electrical, and instrumental equipment needed for wastewater collection and processing.

As part of the wastewater team, you would be responsible for the following:

  • The incumbent is required to operate or monitor operations and controls of the treatment plant and its equipment such as pumps, valves, gates, comminutors, bar racks and screens, clarifiers, aeration, biological treatment,
    disinfecting equipment, engines, generators, instrumentation and the like.
  • The incumbent may occasionally perform lab analyses, records gage and meter readings, records the amount of chemical used and maintains a complete log of sewage treatment plant operations.
  • When directed, the incumbent performs or assists in the performance of major repair work, heavy labor, routine housekeeping, as well as grounds and facility maintenance.
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort required with frequent lifting in excess of thirty (30) pounds up to 100 pounds or more.

Education, Experience and Special Qualifications:

Candidate for this position should, at a minimum, have a high school degree or equivalent. The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Rhode Island Driver’s license, as driving plant vehicles on and off-site is required. In accordance with State Regulations, the incumbent shall possess, or be capable of obtaining withing one year, a valid Grade I, or higher, Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator's License from the RIDEM as well as a valid Grade I, or higher, Collection Systems Operator Certificate as issued by the NEWEA. Candidates with experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing electrical and instrumental control systems at a wastewater utility is highly desirable.

Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Weekend, holiday, weather related, and emergency response overtime is required on a rotating schedule.

Compensation schedule is as follows:
• For the first 90 days of employment, employee shall be compensated at $30.49 per hour.
• For the next 12-month period of employment, employee shall be compensated at $32.28 per hour.
• For the next 3-month period of employment, employee shall be compensated at $34.08 per hour.
• Upon completion of the above 18-month period, employee shall be compensated at $35.87 per hour.
