Description
This position performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks and general and heavy labor as required in the maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Performs a variety of maintenance tasks including the painting of buildings, walls and other surfaces, repair and installation of roofs, doors and window frames and the fabrication of partitions.
- Assists in repairing and installing plumbing, heating, electrical equipment and
- appliances.
- Performs ice and snow removal operations and other emergency work of the department.
- Grounds maintenance activities include landscaping, and require working with push mower, commercial walk behind and riding machines, farm tractors, weed, and hedge trimmers.
- Load and unload materials, assist in excavation work, and perform general laborer work as required.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Required:
- Candidates must have general knowledge of mechanical equipment, standard practices, hand tools, power tools and processes involved in trades related to general building maintenance.
- Moderate to heavy physical effort required with frequent lifting in excess of thirty (30) pounds up to 100 pounds or more.
- Ability and experience in operating a variety of motor vehicles and heavy equipment including but not limited to a snowplow required.
Preferred:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) to two (2) years of responsible maintenance experience.
- Class B Rhode Island Commercial Driver’s License (CDL); candidates will be considered who do not possess the Class B CDL but, if hired, will be required to obtain the license within 90 days of employment.
- Hoisting engineering license; candidates will be considered do not possess the hoisting engineering license but may be required to obtain license at a date to be determined.
The salary range is $23.50 - $25.50 depending on experience and licenses.
