Autoflowering genetics originate from Cannabis ruderalis, a hardy variety native to Russia and Central Asia that flowers based on age rather than day length. By crossing this trait into indica lines, breeders created autoflowering indica seeds that begin blooming automatically around three to four weeks after germination. The plants keep the short, dense structure of their indica parent while inheriting the ruderalis timing. This makes them a distinct category from photoperiod varieties.
