Description
Goodison Company is seeking an experienced Shop Mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of equipment at our busy, fast-paced shipyard in Quonset Point, Rhode Island.
Our equipment fleet includes:
- Electric and diesel scissor lifts
- Electric and diesel boom lifts
- Propane, gasoline, and diesel forklifts
- Pressure washers
- Compressors, pumps, generators, and other industrial equipment
- Various vehicles, tools, and shipyard support equipment
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment
- Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and engine-related problems
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine service
- Repair hydraulic hoses, cylinders, pumps, valves, and related components
- Diagnose electrical faults involving batteries, charging systems, wiring, switches, sensors, and controls
- Respond to equipment breakdowns throughout the shipyard
- Maintain accurate service and repair records
- Identify and order required replacement parts
- Keep the shop and work areas clean, organized, and safe
- Follow all company, OSHA, and shipyard safety requirements
Qualifications
- Prior experience repairing construction, industrial, automotive, agricultural, or material-handling equipment
- Working knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems is required
- Experience with gasoline, diesel, and propane-powered equipment
- Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
- A valid driver’s license is preferred
The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, organized, and capable of handling a wide variety of equipment repairs. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys troubleshooting and working on different types of machinery rather than performing the same repairs every day.
Pay will be based on experience and qualifications.
